SR EF Legacy Village
A Place to Begin Again
A long-term vision for a place where restoration, dignity, purpose and belonging are practised together — carrying forward the life of service of Sr. Elizabeth Funie Shabalala.
Imagine
Before this is a place, it is a picture.
Imagine a woman leaving a place that is no longer safe.
Imagine a man collapsing under pressure he was never taught how to carry.
Imagine a young person whose future is being dismantled by drugs, grief or the absence of guidance.
Imagine being told to rebuild when you have nowhere safe to sleep, nowhere quiet enough to think and nobody willing to believe another life remains possible.
The SR EF Legacy Village is being built for exactly that moment.
The Founder's Reason
This vision comes from something lived.
After the loss of her older sister, Nokulunga walked through a season of substance use. Her mother, Sr. Elizabeth Funie Shabalala, did not abandon her. She held the line of truth and the line of love at the same time — refusing to lose her daughter without refusing to see her.
That memory is why the Village exists. It is built on the belief that accountability and human compassion must coexist — that people can be told the truth and still be offered a place to begin again.
"Nobody should have nowhere to go."
The Village will not solve every problem, and it will not pretend to. It is a specific answer to a specific question: Where do people go when they need to start again with dignity?
The Village Journey
Six stages, built the way people are built.
1. Arrival & Safety
A person arrives in whatever state they are in. The first priority is safety, rest and to be listened to without judgement.
2. Stabilisation
Basic needs are met — a safe bed, food, hygiene, a calm room. Nothing is asked of anyone that they are not ready to give.
3. Listening & Truth
Conversations with a trained peer supporter or counsellor. The Village does not rush the truth — it makes space for it.
4. Formation
Skills, learning, mentorship, creative expression, faith conversations if wanted, and small, honest steps forward.
5. Reintegration
The Village is not an escape from life. Where possible, people return to their families and communities stronger and more equipped.
6. Continued Belonging
Nobody has to leave alone. People remain connected to the Foundation as alumni, mentors or volunteers if they choose.
Planned Spaces
