About the Foundation
A foundation built to outlive us.
The SR EF Legacy of Purpose Foundation is a human-centred organisation committed to helping people heal, rebuild, learn, develop practical skills and move forward with dignity.
The Foundation carries the name and values of Sr. Elizabeth Funie Shabalala, a professional nurse, educator, mother, mentor and builder of people whose care did not end when her shift ended.
She served because people mattered.
She listened without exposing them, helped without humiliating them and treated human dignity as something that could never depend on race, nationality, gender, culture, social status or personal history.
Her life inspired the Foundation.
Humanity gives it its mission.
Our Story
Service that continues through action.
The Foundation was not created simply to preserve a name.
It was created to continue a way of serving.
Our work supports children, young people, families and individuals through practical assistance, education, mentorship, emotional support, skills development, creative expression and responsible connections to further care.
The work has included school-fee support, uniforms, stationery, school shoes, dignity products, food assistance, mentorship, online support conversations and access to skills-development opportunities.
Much of this work has been funded personally by the Founder.
The next chapter is to strengthen it through responsible partnerships, sustainable funding, clear systems, qualified people and a wider community willing to build together.
We are not beginning to care.
We are building the structure that will allow the care to continue.

Humanity Before Labels
A person's need does not become less important because of race, nationality, gender, culture, social status, religion, family background or personal history.
Pain is human.
Dignity belongs to everyone.
Help Should Lead Somewhere
Food, money and emergency support can matter deeply.
But where possible, support should also help people stabilise, learn, develop useful skills, make informed decisions and move towards greater independence.
Privacy Is Part of Dignity
People should never have to surrender their personal story, identity or image in exchange for assistance.
We do not use hardship as entertainment.
We do not expose children to prove that support was provided.
Asking for Help Is Not Weakness
Human beings are not designed to carry every loss, crisis or transition alone.
Asking for help is often the first responsible step towards rebuilding.
Accountability and Humanity Can Coexist
Wrongdoing should not be denied or excused.
At the same time, people should have access to truth, education, rehabilitation and the opportunity to choose a different path where this can be done safely and responsibly.
Forgiveness must never be used to pressure anyone to return to danger, abandon justice or remove necessary boundaries.
Strength Should Be Passed Forward
When people heal, learn and become stronger, we encourage them to pass forward what they can through compassion, knowledge, mentorship, opportunity or service.
Not because they owe the Foundation.
Because stronger people can help build stronger communities.
How We Serve
We help without taking away dignity.
Our support begins with the person, not the publicity.
We listen carefully, respond honestly and recognise the limits of what one person or organisation can provide.
Support may include practical assistance, education, mentorship, emotional guidance, skills development, creative expression or connection to appropriate professional and community resources.
Where specialised assistance is required, people are encouraged towards suitable professional, clinical, legal, educational, health, faith-based or community services.
We do not make promises we cannot responsibly fulfil.
