1. Our promise to volunteers
We will treat you with respect, brief you properly for every assignment, equip you with what you need, recognise your contribution and provide a safe environment to serve in.
2. Your promise as a volunteer
- Serve with dignity. Treat every person — beneficiary, fellow volunteer, partner and member of the public — with the dignity Elizabeth showed throughout her life.
- Act with integrity. Be honest in your words, your reporting and your handling of resources entrusted to you.
- Honour confidentiality. Personal stories, photographs and information shared in the course of service are not yours to publish or repeat.
- Protect children and vulnerable people. Comply with our Child Protection & Safeguarding Policy at all times.
- Be reliable. Honour your commitments. If you cannot attend, let the team lead know as early as possible.
- Stay sober and safe. Never serve under the influence of alcohol or illicit substances.
- No discrimination. We do not tolerate discrimination on the basis of race, ethnicity, gender, faith, age, disability, sexual orientation, nationality or socio-economic background.
- No harassment. Bullying, intimidation, sexual harassment and verbal abuse are grounds for immediate removal.
- No gifts or payments. Volunteers may not request or accept money, goods or favours from beneficiaries.
- Represent the Foundation responsibly. When in our colours, online or in person, speak and act in a way that protects our mission.
3. Photography and storytelling
Always obtain informed consent before photographing or recording beneficiaries. Children may only be photographed with the consent of a parent or legal guardian and only for purposes approved by the Foundation. Never share images that compromise dignity or safety.
4. Safeguarding
Any concern about a child, a vulnerable adult or a fellow volunteer must be reported immediately to your team lead and to info@eflegacy.org. You will be supported. We do not punish good-faith reports.
5. Breach of the Code
Breaches are taken seriously. Depending on the nature of the breach, consequences may include a private conversation, a written warning, suspension or removal from the volunteer programme. Serious breaches will also be reported to the relevant authorities.
6. Acknowledgement
Every volunteer is asked to read and acknowledge this Code before being assigned to a program or event.
